Examining the Content of Mathematics History in Secondary School Mathematics Textbooks

This study investigates the use of history mathematics in secondary school coursebooks designed according to new curriculum prepared 2018 and make alternative suggestions which can be used. For this purpose, four coursebooks, were decided taught schools affiliated Turkish Ministry National Education for years as 2018, analyzed by document analysis method, research attempted determine what extent was used these coursebooks. While making analyzing data, categories proposed Erdoğan et al. (2015) used, including “historical notes,” “notes on usage areas mathematics,” “applications with historical elements students’ extracurricular activities.” As a result study, it found out that 27 mostly included at fifth grade, lead-in stage, area learning numbers operations, form small snippets about development situations other than mathematics.
